Tzitzits (Tassels)

Updated: Jan 28, 2024

If you are familiar with this ministry, you know that we set our hearts to learn and keep the commandments.

By this, we can be sure that we have come to know Him: if we keep His commandments.

For this is the love of YHWH, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome,

Okay, you thought this post was about Tzitzits (Tassels), and no worries, it is! But it is because we desire to Keep the Forever Law of YAHUAH, MOST HIGH, that we wear tzitzits.

"Later, YHWH said to Moses, “Speak to the Israelites and tell them that throughout the generations to come, they are to make for themselves tassels for the corners of their garments, with a blue cord on each tassel. These will serve as tassels for you to look at, so that you may remember all the commandments of YHWH, that you may obey them and not prostitute yourselves by following your own heart and your own eyes. Then you will remember and obey all My commandments, and you will be holy to your ELOHIM. I am YHWH, your ELOHIM who brought you out of the land of Egypt to be your ELOHIM. I am YHWH your ELOHIM."

My family wears tzitzits (tassels). We make them at home, we make them together, and we

talk about YAHUAH’s Word while we make them. Our little family is truly blessed in this small act of obedience. My family began to strive to keep the Commands in 2016. We’ve been wearing tzitzits now for more than 4 years! All Esteem to YAHUAH, we have learned so much since we began.

When I first began making and wearing tzitzits, I studied, I prayed, and I sought the counsel of my husband. In my house, we read “The Scriptures” together, we pray together, make mistakes, and learn and grow together. My husband and I agreed to keep the commands and to teach our children to do the same. So we made enough for everyone in our house!

This small act of obedience has turned our lives around! In the beginning, over four years ago, I wondered about this command. In my heart, as I was getting ready one morning, I asked YAH about this command.

If you are a believer who searches the Scriptures for answers, then you will understand when I say that "The Ruach HaKodesh” (The Holy Spirit) answered me! “Maria, you are walking out in the physical that which must also be in the spiritual.” You are seeking MOST HIGH YAHUAH 1st and striving to keep the commands!”

"My soul longs for You in the night; indeed, my spirit within me diligently seeks You. For when Your judgments come upon the earth, the inhabitants of the world will learn righteousness."

"But seek first the kingdom of YHWH and His righteousness, and all these things will be added unto you."

You see, hindsight is really something! I see now how this translated into my life. Every morning I’d wake up with YAH 1st on my mind. I’d get up and begin preparation for my day with Him 1st in my mind. Selecting my clothes and searching for my tzitzits. Looking for YAHUAH before I ever raced to earn a living or make worldly living preparations. Literally setting my heart on seeking HIM before anything! This continued for me day after day.

If ever I forgot my tzitzits, I carried that regret with me all day; I missed them. I missed their reminders. I missed being able to find them with my hands. They truly do serve as reminders all day long. Thankfully, that has only happened a few times as I do indeed strive to wear them every day!

I see how my family has been blessed. My husband searches for his tzitzits. I see him as he continues to grow as a husband and a dad that seeks his ABBA YAH 1st every day. Our children, too, look for their tzitzits! They are seeking their Father in Heaven and wearing tzitzits as reminders to keep YAH's Word. They are looking for YAH 1st, and it is pleasing beyond words in my eyes.

Now, after 4 years of making tzitzits for what has grown to be a family of 7, there are tzitzits everywhere (reminders)! Tzitzits hanging in the living room (reminders), hanging in our bedroom closets (reminders), hanging in our studio, and in our cars (more reminders), on our bags (reminders), and being used as bookmarkers (special reminders). These little REMINDERS are EVERYWHERE, and we keep growing, we keep learning, we keep striving.

Deuteronomy 22:12

"You shall make yourself tassels on the four corners of your garment with which you cover yourself."

Numbers 15:38

"Speak to the Israelites and tell them that throughout the generations to come, they are to make for themselves tassels for the corners of their garments, with a blue cord on each tassel."

We are not leaning toward the traditions of other people concerning keeping this command. The "so-called" Jews of today have added much to this command. They claim particular ways of making them, hanging them, and say that women should not wear them.

In my home, we strive to look to the Scriptures for answers. We do not wish to walk away from one religion just to fall into another. We are walking along the narrow road, and we desire to only follow the Words of YAH. We test the words of men by the Word of Truth! This means that we search the Scriptures for instructions, and everything that we accept must line up with Scripture. If something does not line up with Scripture, it cannot be Truth.

It is important that we all know the reasons that we believe something. Yes, even the root reasons that we act out traditions. There is nothing wrong with gleaning from the understanding of others, for Scripture says in Proverbs 27:17, "As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another." There is something wrong, however, with gleaning from someone whose understanding does line up with Scripture.

Study, believe, keep, and repeat! His Word is light, and Truth is found when we seek it!

As we continue pressing on in a relationship with YAH we must dig into His Word and ask Him for understanding. As we grow we will learn more about Him and what He desires of us.

"Whom will he teach knowledge? And whom will he make to understand the message? Those just weaned from milk? Those just drawn from the breasts? For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept, Line upon line, line upon line, Here a little, there a little."

YAHUAH does immeasurably more than we can imagine. He is the giver of life, wisdom, and understanding. Here we are, now after all these years of keeping this command, and we are still learning more about it!

As we learn more, we will try to share what we learn with you. I do not know how much time we have left before we are called to walk away. As long as YAH allows us, we will continue to share over media and the internet until we go.

119 Ministries has some pretty awesome videos on the subject. I'll post the link to those below.

Ultimately, we each have a duty to test ideas according to Scripture. Know the reason for your belief and seek every answer from YAH.

YAH bless you and keep, you who are seeking Truth!
